Each year, on April 22 we recognize the start of the modern environmental movement which started in 1970. It’s quite amazing how much change has been inspired and implemented from a community of passionate individuals. We still have a long way to go, but when you start researching what our planet is doing to combat climate change and environmental degradation you’ll find we have accomplished quite a bit.
The simple truth about the challenge of living more sustainability is that we don’t really “know” what sustainability means and has the potential of looking like. The way I see it is that there isn’t one approach to defining sustainability that will work for every unique organization. We have to celebrate diversity and in doing so find solutions that reflect the diversity of our unique communities.
I’m of the generation that grew up during the dawn of the personal computers and access to the internet. It’s been amazing to watch the development of high tec tools that can process information and share ideas with incredible speed and
accuracy. Information is clutch when making a sustainable choice. I’ve developed Green Camps Initiative to help camps organize and analyze their camp data to make sustainable choices.
I’ve had the great opportunity to work with camps who are practicing sustainability. These camps offer engaging examples of how they have made intentional choices to access the benefits of sustainability.
Visit the Case Studies Page to see examples of sustainable initiatives from the camp community that have been on display at our recent outreach events.
The current focus of Green Camps Initiative is to grow our membership to connect and learn with the growing network of environmentally responsible camps. With the development of the Green Camps Cloud Community, members are utilizing technology to facilitate the collection, organization and analysis of data to support camps in expanding their efforts in a way that reflects their needs and wants.
