Earlier this year a friend of mine recommended I apply for the non-profit program offered by Salesforce Foundation to help Green Camps Initiative manage the growing network of camps interested in sustainability. Initially it was just meant to offer an organizational tool to stay in touch with and organize the growing number of camps and sustainability professionals I have been networking with since I first conceptualized Green Camps Initiative in 2011.
The most recent releases by Salesforce have provided revolutionary tools in creating communities that engage customers by providing them direct access to the salesforce platform which can be designed to correlate with the objectives of each unique organization.
Another program of Salesforce Foundation is pro-bono consulting from salesforce employees. My project was chosen by a Senior Solution Architect with a focus on Salesforce Community Development. Phase one of development will create a customer portal for Green Camps Members to access the Green Camps Initiative platform with a focus on facilitating camps to build a unique sustainable camp profile and complete the Green Camps Certification process. This is important because there isn’t one model for sustainable development that will meet the unique needs of each camp. As a result of the certification process, each camp will build a framework to define sustainability and how to best access the environmental, educational and economic benefits.
Green Camps Members are given one license as a part of their membership to access the salesforce community platform via a computer, smart phone or tablet. Once logged in, the camp is guided through each of the five steps required to complete the Green Camps Certification. This will build a unique sustainability profile for each member camp and provide direction for what areas of sustainability would best meet the needs of the programs and facility.
A launch date for the community has not been announced, but we hope to have phase one development completed by the end of 2015. Phase one features include a chatter feed to communicate with other camp members and administrators, audit tools to run sample energy/water calculations and an automated certification process.
Development phases have been planned to allow for future growth of the functionality of this resource. Sustainable growth should take into account the long term goals and objectives of an organization. Green Camps Initiative not only wants to support camps in achieving this goal, but is also practicing sustainability growth of it’s organization through long term planning to ensure the continued growth and impact of our mission and goals.
